The article addresses the pressing issue of modernizing the
foreign language training system for officer personnel of the Armed Forces of
Ukraine in the context of implementing NATO standards into military education.
Particular attention is focused on analyzing the specific features of language
assessment under the STANAG 6001 standard, which serves as a key instrument
for evaluating the functional communicative competence of military personnel.
The aim of the study is to provide a theoretical foundation and develop effective
strategies for optimizing English language instruction to ensure learners’
successful adaptation to the regulations and examination format of STANAG
testing.
The study identifies the main challenges faced by military personnel,
including psychological barriers during spontaneous briefings, the specifics of
decoding authentic audio content under extreme conditions (radio commu nication and background noise), as well as the structural requirements for
producing standardized military documentation. Based on these findings, an
innovative didactic model is proposed, built upon the synergy of the
communicative-activity approach and situational task-based simulation
technology.
The effectiveness of optimization tools such as intensive immersion in
specialized military discourse, integration of authentic materials from
multinational operations, and regular simulation-based examinations aimed at
reducing test anxiety has been demonstrated. The findings confirm that targeted
didactic adaptation to the STANAG 6001 descriptors significantly improves
certification outcomes and develops future officers’ readiness for operational
interaction within joint international contingents.
