Oxide of carbon in tobacco smoke dues to hypoxia in tissues of the fetus and, as result, takes place the disturbances of all metabolic processes. Content of creatinine, as a reflection of the protein metabolism, and thiocyanate were determined in the blood serum of the umbilical cord in the newborns of the smoking women during of the pregnancy period. The increase content of creatinine and thiocyanate indicated a negative effect of smoking on the metabolism of the fetus.
