The antidepressant properties of magnesium bis(citrate)germanate (hermacyte) and cobalt
bis(citrate)germanate (hercocyte) were studied.
The research studies were carried out with male Wistar rats during the Porsolt test (so-
called “forced swimming test”). The compounds were administered at the doses of 1/80, 1/110
and 1/135 LD50, and the results were compared with the control group and with the reference
drug Melipramin.
Analysis of the results revealed that cobalt bis(citrate)germanate (hercocyte) showed
statistically significant indicators of reducing the duration of immobilization of the rats (by 5.3
times compared with the control animals and by 1.7 times compared with the reference drug
Melipramin), significantly increased the number of jumps (by 4.1 times compared with the
control animals and by 1.6 times in comparison with the reference drug
Melipramin) and the total time of active swimming (by 1.7 times compared with the control
group and by 1.2 times in comparison with Melipramin). In this experimental modeling of the
depressive state, cobalt bis(citrate)germanate (hercocyte) has significant antidepressant
properties at the dose of 1/135 LD50 to a greater extent than germacyte and even exceeds the
indicators of the reference drug, so it is a promising compound for further research study.
