Abstract:
Today, about 70 million people worldwide suffer from epilepsy.
In Ukraine, the prevalence of epilepsy is about 2.5 - 4.5 per 1000. Despite the
emergence of new, more effective antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), 30% of patients are
insensitive to AEDs. Pharmacological resistance (AED insensitivity) is defined as the
inability to prescribe (sequential or combined) two antiepileptic drugs in adequate
doses to eliminate the manifestations of epilepsy. Solving pharmacological resistance
requires the rapid development of new antiepileptic drugs and the definition of new
strategic approaches to its treatment. Aim of the investigation. To investigate effects of combined administration of
rapamycin – blocker of mTOR, pioglitazone – agonist of PPAR-gamma, and
minocycline hydrochloride – inhibitor of microglia upon acute seizures in mice.
