The dissertation is devoted to the pathogenetic substantiation of the concept
of prevention and treatment of dental caries and inflammatory periodontal diseases
in children with chronic gastrointestinal diseases.
The dental status of children is closely related to the general somatic condition
of the body, in particular to the functioning of the digestive organs. The
gastrointestinal tract is involved in digestion, absorption of macro- and
microelements, regulation of mineral metabolism, formation of the immune
response, and maintenance of the microbiocenosis. Impairment of its function may
alter the physicochemical properties of oral fluid, reduce its buffering capacity,
disrupt enamel remineralization, and contribute to the formation of oral dysbiosis.
Under such conditions, the risk of dental caries increases, inflammatory changes in
periodontal tissues become more pronounced, and the effectiveness of local defense
mechanisms decreases.
